Springfield, IL

Following the Feast of the Corn Dog/Orange Cold Drink we pointed Mr. Garmin toward All Things Abraham - in downtown Springfield.

If you break out in hives around school children on a field trip, this is not for you.

Nah, just suck it up and get over it and go, because this is for everybody.

Note to Self:  next time you're in the Abraham Lincoln National Park Visitor Center Store, and you hear a young college girl mention Utah and the fact that she's from Utah, be sure you find out she's a student from the local Baptist College before you ask her a certain question.  That will save you, Self, from having to go over and witness your own daughter laughing hysterically at you.

The following pictures were taken in the Abraham Lincoln home.

Encyclopedia Mamafamilias would like to point out that back in the day, they liked to have alot of color in their rooms.  Color and pattern coordination was not a big issue.

FYI, we were kinda hurried on through as there was a big group coming in right behind us, so some of the pictures are not exactly of the National Geographic quality.

Note:  the little sister of the little boy showing up in the next picture kept asking when Abraham Lincoln was coming back home.  Apparently she was distressed because we were all traipsing through his house when he wasn't even home.

The two pictures shown right above were taken of the children's room.  The Lincolns lost their 2nd son, Eddie, while living in this home.  He was just shy of turning 4 years old, and they were both devastated at the loss, as I can well imagine.

The house started out life as one story but as Lincoln made more money as a lawyer, they added the 2nd story to it.

When we finished here, we walked and walked and walked and walked up to the state capitol building.

More field-trip younguns there as well.

A reminder as to why I'm selling pump parts now.

Yeah, I don't care who y'are-that was funny. Just making friends everywhere, aren't we? Your pictures turned out a lot better than mine; I only got about two anyway. Apparently matching colors and pattern still aren't any more of a concern for some people now than it was back then, eh? Remember the middle school kid (out of the millions that were there) in the blue plaid pants and blue and white striped shirt? Poor kid's mother, I'm sure she tries.

The pictures make that look so interesting. Something that I wouldn't have thought otherwise.

And yes, you should prolly ask other questions FIRST, before you ask the obvio one!

: )

Makes me laugh!

Sweet! What a great sounding trip. This sure beat Myrtle Beach and putt putt. Wonderful that you chronicled the entire journey with your camera too. You guys are lucky to have each other.

I think your picture are fantastic. It's hard to get good ones inside these old homes with the poor light. I love your story about the baptist girl from UT. And how cute is the little girl worries about Abe coming home soon.
