Living in a college town makes me have not-so-charitable thoughts from 7:40 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, August through May. The students really, really get in my way on my way to work at that time on those days (mostly Tuesdays through Thursdays, though - on Mondays, I figure they're recovering from the weekend, on Fridays they're getting ready for the weekend).
But once in a blue moon, an event comes around that makes me pretty happy to be living in a college town. Today was one of those days.
So happens they were hosting a Children's Art Day (not sure what their official title was).
This was our 1st time attending and it was absolutely fantastic.
I understand that it is usually held outside (and I have to admit - it is a pretty campus), but it was held inside today, due to the raindrops that kept falling on our heads.
We were there from 10:00 to about 2:30 and only left then because we were starving, so we still had to leave a few events behind.
What we did:
Molding clay (in the pottery center);
Stamped cards;
Had faces painted;
Made spiders and flowers with pipe cleaners;
Made bracelets;
Watched dancing (Tap dancing to "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B" was our favorite);
Put flower petals on a piece of clear contact paper, put another piece of contact paper on the top, trimmed it, punched a hole in it, put a string in the hole, and will hang it in the window;
Did a little hammering;
Made a sock doll (brought one home to baby sister, but without eyes, hair or anything else);
Had a picture taken wearing a pirate hat and holding a monkey (an Oriental Trading breed of monkey);
All in all, it was a most fabulous day.
I just hope I remember that next week on my way to work.
