Day 2: Green Poetry

The Wind That Shakes the Barley
by Katherine Tynan

There's music in my heart all day,
I hear it late and early,
It comes from fields are far away,
The wind that shakes the barley.

Above the uplands drenched with dew
The sky hangs soft and pearly,
An emerald world is listening to
The wind that shakes the barley.

Above the bluest mountain crest
The lark is singing rarely,
It rocks the singer into rest,
The wind that shakes the barley.

Oh, still through summers and through springs
It calls me late and early,
Come home, come home, come home, it sings,
The wind that shakes the barley.

the words are different, but this is a great song; loreena mckennitt just did a version of it and solas has a really good version. there is this independent movie by the same title, about the ira in the 1920's and the whole fight for independence and the splitting off of northern ireland. it has cillian murphy (who is from cork), the one who played fischer in 'inception,' and he is just (in some movies) too hot for words to me. so, just because i am a good daughter, i've found an interview for you of him talking about that movie, in 1920's clothing, talking with his irish accent. i know, i know, i love you too. actually, he really looks better in the movie....

I especially like the part about "coming home." Makes me think of my baby daughter who is coming home in one more week.

This poem is so beautiful. It is elegant in its simplicity. Thanks.

I'll check Kelly's links too.
