It's been a quiet weekend on Lake Wobegone, more or less. We went out on the boat for a little while yesterday, just in time for it to rain on us. But I wanted to see the leaves from the river/boat angle before it got too cold. No pictures turned out good enough to write home about, but it was pretty cool when the wind whipped up and blew them onto the water.
Anyway, that was the excitement. So in light of that, I'm putting in a recipe that is seriously good. Hips in the larvae stage, you might say. My sister gave me this recipe. She got it from her mother-in-law (just want to give credit where credit is due).
Butter Brickle Bars
1 stick butter (the real stuff)
1 stick margarine
1/2 cup sugar
Graham crackers
Milk Chocolate
Sliced almonds
Break the graham crackers on the lines until you have 58 of the little rectangles. Lay them in a pan (I usually spray the pan with Pam). Bring the butter, margarine and sugar to an easy boil; boil for 3 minutes. Spoon it over the crackers; sprinkle the sliced almonds on top and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or so. Separate the bars when they're cool enough to handle and lay 'em out on tin foil. Melt the milk chocolate and drizzle over the top. Don't even bother to try and control yourself.
